‘Kobitay Kathalap’ was conceived on the steps of Jadavpur University, Calcutta University and Medical College, places that used to, and still continue to be a meeting ground of ignited minds with dreams to fulfill. It started as a burning desire in Chandrima Roy to make a positive influence on audience and society, to conceive productions that would establish a multi layered communication between the speaker and listener and enlighten the listener with information.

At the beginning, the alleys and open maidans of the city were, literally, the stage for ‘Kobitay Kathalap’ performers, since due to lack of a studio they would practice their performances under the open sky. A decade has passed since and the flame has spread to shores near and far and have lighted countless souls with its numerous productions. The identity of ‘Kobitay Kathalap’ and Chandrima Roy have become inseparable. Chandrima has always acknowledged the presence of friends and well wishers who have helped her in her journey, stood by her in her struggle. But it is her own grit, determination and hard work that has made her a celebrated and reliable performer who has performed in most of the prestigious venue and occasions.

In her effort to give back to the society, ignite young minds and establish the importance of communication as an essential life skill Chandrima Roy envisioned ‘Kobitay Kathalap’ as a platform to share specialized services and courses. These services are aimed at young and old alike and work towards improving the communication skill of an individual by introducing them to Bengali poetry, familiarizing NRI youngsters with Bengali culture, inculcating positivity through Vedic awareness and chanting and improving the employability of the youth by honing their communication skills.

’Kobitay Kathalap’ has become a multi-faceted institution in itself with an aim to make a positive impact in all the lives it touches. The flame that started ‘Kobitay Kathalap’ continues to burn and promises to continue making a difference.
